Running a Business is a Race

Running a Business is a RaceRunning a business can be very demanding. Sometimes it seems that the harder we work the less progress we make. This can be true for a number of reasons. For a start, how are you measuring progress and how are you planning for success?

Let me ask you this… Why did you get into business in the first place?

If you are like many of the business owners who have attended my

workshops over the last few years it will be because:

  • You want a better lifestyle… More time with the family or loved ones or to spend on doing the things you enjoy.
  • You want a career where you have the flexibility to manage your time.
  • You think you can earn more money if you cut out the middle man (the boss) and went straight to the customer with your skills.
  • You just couldn’t stand the frustrations or toxic work environment anymore and thought it would be easier to make your own decisions without anyone to tell you what to do.
  • Or maybe all or some combinations of the above.

For most of us the reality doesn’t turn out quite as we had hoped. We have to learn a lot of stuff very quickly, we have to wait a LONG time for the money to come in and there are always more expenses than we ever thought to deal with. For those of you that have employees to manage, things can even get more complicated.  Somewhere along the line you might find yourself so bogged down, unable to focus, exhausted and frustrated that you just want to give up.

This is when you really need to step back.  Take the time to have a look at what is going on and make plans to get everything back on track.   You might be thinking right now that you can’t take the time off work to do it. You might be thinking that it will just cause more work to pile up for you.  But the question is, can you afford to let the opportunity to plan things right pass you by? Most of the business owners who attended my workshops and training find this the most valuable time to reflect on the four important elements of success in business; Vision… Action… Balance… Motivation.

There is no better time than now. Get your year off to a good start…right now.
